The Egg & Avocado Deluxe: A Slow Sunday Breakfast
Sunday is the one morning of the week that does not owe anybody anything. No alarm you have to beat, no clock running in the back of your head. A vegetarian breakfast Moorpark can sit down and take seriously is one of the better ways to spend a morning like that, and at CJ's Urban Cafe the one we would point you to first is the Egg & Avocado Deluxe. Our menu calls it a vegetarian favorite, and it earns the name.
It is not a complicated dish. That is the whole appeal. Fresh egg, avocado slices, tomato, black olives and sunflower seeds. Five things that know how to get along, and nothing on the plate trying to prove a point.
A vegetarian breakfast Moorpark can take its time over
Meat-free breakfast has a bad reputation for leaving you hungry an hour later. That reputation comes from breakfasts built by removing things instead of breakfasts built around something. This one is built around the avocado and the egg together, and that combination carries you. It is genuinely filling without sitting heavy on you for the rest of the day.
It also happens to taste like the season we are in. Avocado and tomato are summer food. Eaten on a warm Sunday morning with nowhere to be, they are close to perfect.
What is actually in it
Fresh egg. Avocado slices. Tomato. Black olives. Sunflower seeds. The olives bring salt, the sunflower seeds bring a small crunch that keeps every bite from going soft, and the tomato keeps everything bright. You are getting real texture in a breakfast that could easily have been one note. Nothing here is a garnish. Every piece of it is doing a job.
Why Sunday suits this one
Some food is designed to be eaten fast. This is not that food. Avocado wants to be eaten slowly, at a table, with something warm next to it. If you inhale it in the car you will have eaten it, but you will not really have had it.
So do it the other way. Come in, sit down, let the morning go where it goes. We open at 8AM every day of the week, which means you can be an early riser or you can be the person who woke up when they felt like it. Either one works.
There is also something to be said for eating breakfast somewhere other than your own kitchen. You are not looking at the dishes. You are not thinking about the counter you meant to wipe down yesterday. Somebody else is handling all of that, and your only job is the plate in front of you. That is a small thing, and on a Sunday it is not a small thing at all.
Something warm to go with it
A slow breakfast is not complete without a cup of something. Whatever your regular order is, we most likely make it.
Pick your coffee
We pour Latte, Mocha, Americano, Cold Brew, Cappuccino and Macchiato. If coffee is not what you are after, there is Chai Latte and Matcha Latte too. On a hot Moorpark morning the Cold Brew is hard to argue with, and if you want the breakfast to feel like an occasion rather than a routine, get the Cappuccino and let it sit next to the plate while you eat. Either way, having something in the cup is what turns eating into breakfast.
Other meat-free ways to start the day
If the Egg & Avocado Deluxe is not the one, you have options. The Avocado & Swiss brings egg, avocado, basil, tomato and pesto mayo together, so it is in the same family but with more herb and more punch to it.
If you want something you can hold, look at the burritos. The Vegetarian burrito comes in a spinach tortilla with rice, eggs, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and sun-dried tomato pesto, and it is the heartiest meat-free thing on our breakfast menu. The Cheese Scramble is the comfort pick, with a honey-wheat tortilla, rice, eggs, mozzarella, pepper jack and cheddar. That is three cheeses, which is the correct number of cheeses on a Sunday.
The nice part is that you are not stuck with one answer forever. If you come in with somebody, order two different things and trade halfway through. That is how most people find the one they end up ordering every week without having to think about it.
